After the postponement of Wakefield Trinity RL’s clash with St Helens on Sunday, we only had one match this weekend as Trinity LFC continued their 2021/22 preparations with a pre-season test against Leeds United Women.
Women’s Football | Leeds United Women 8-0 Trinity LFC
A solid run out ended in defeat for Wakefield Trinity Ladies FC as Leeds United Women took the victory at The Global Stadium on Sunday.
As Trinity gear up for their first season in the NERWFL Premier, a stern test against Leeds United Women beckoned in their second pre-season friendly of the season.
After a bit of time off due to the curtailment of the season early this year, Trinity LFC’s first team travelled across West Yorkshire to face an in-form Leeds United side.
However, despite the difference in league status, Trinity started well and after 25 minutes, there wasn’t much to separate the two sides.
It didn’t take the home side much longer to make the breakthrough, though, and after a sustained period of pressure, a superb strike from Laura Bartup left Chelsea Pilmer reeling.
It didn’t take long for Leeds to add a second, Danby, once again, curling the ball onto the head of Kanisha-Mae Underdown, who doubled United’s advantage.
With a mix of lack of minutes and the sweltering heat, Trinity were tiring as Leeds took the game by the scruff of the neck after the interval.
Olivia Smart’s deflected shot fooled Pilmer, before Paige Williams and Smith added two more moments later.
A quick-fire double from Kirstie Hunt added to Leeds’ resounding lead before a smart finish from Bass completed the scoring in the 81st minute.
Beaten but not disgraced, Trinity LFC will continue their pre-season campaign against Warrington Wolves on Sunday, 1st August as they prepare for new beginnings.
