Women’s Football | Trinity LFC 2-2 Sunderland West End
Wakefield Trinity LFC start their life in the North-East Regional Women’s Football League with a draw after a late Sunderland equaliser stunned the hosts.
After nearly 18 months out of action, Trinity LFC started their 2021/22 campaign at the Just Football MDC Stadium against Sunderland.
A fresh challenge in a new league brings its challenges, but it was Wakefield who started the brighter, as Neve Renwick opened the scoring.
Demi Godson playing through Renwick, who nudged the ball past the West End goalkeeper to put Wakefield ahead at the break.
Despite a strong first-half and the coach’s words ringing in their ears, it was the away side who started the second period brighter as Ally Ferris got Sunderland back into the contest.
Despite the set-back, it was Wakefield who continued to probe the Sunderland defence, and it wasn’t long before the home side reinstated their lead.
Just as the game was reaching the hour-mark, Danni Biglin fired home to give Trinity the one-goal advantage.
With Sunderland probing for an equaliser, Wakefield held firm, however, with just five minutes of the game left to play, the away side eventually drew level.
Kirtsen Whitfield breaking Trinity hearts at the death, as she slotted the ball past the Wakefield goalkeeper, meaning the points were shared.
Wakefield Trinity LFC will be back in action this Sunday as the host Sheffield Wednesday at the Just Football MDC Stadium.
