Wakefield Trinity Community Foundation is delighted to announce that we have received extra backing from Wakefield Council to extend the Big Feed over an extended six-week period.
Since February 2021, alongside our partners and sibling hubs, the Foundation and our volunteers have delivered circa 22,000 meals to the elderly and vulnerable of the district.
The project will now be extended for at least another six weeks as we continue to find ways to support our community throughout the Covid-19 pandemic.
While, we are delighted that LD Nutrition has continued their partnership with the project, offering a selection of freshly-cooked meals to be delivered three days a week.
Cllr Maureen Cummings, Deputy Chair of the Residents Recovery Group and Wakefield Council’s Cabinet Member for Communities, Poverty and Health, said: “We’re absolutely delighted to be able to continue to support and fund the Big Feed for at least another six weeks.
“The project has become a lifeline for many of our older and vulnerable residents who have had little social contact for over a year now.
“It is so important that this much-needed support continues, as it’s not just about food, I know how much that short visit each week has meant to so many residents who have been unable to see family and friends during the pandemic – it’s about much more than having a meal delivered – and I’d like to say a big thank you to the volunteers who are the real heroes of this project.”
While, Big Feed recipient, Patricia Driver, followed, “My husband and I are delighted to hear that the project is continuing.
“The meals are nutritious and healthy, making it easier for us to stay fit and well throughout the pandemic.
“How we have been supported over the past couple of months has been brilliant and we are pleased that it is able to continue.”
The event will resume on Monday, 14th June, carrying on the same style, with meals being delivered every Monday, Wednesday and Friday (10am-2pm), with the Big Feed hotline (10924 211 611 opt 6) operating in the same time frames.
While the Foundation is also on the lookout for volunteers to help organise and distribute the meals. To get involved, please contact email@example.com.
