The Twinning Project aims to bring together professional sporting organisations and prisons across the UK, using sport as a catalyst for change. Our goal is to deliver coaching, refereeing and employability based qualifications to prisoners to better prepare them for release. Adults re offend at a rate of 63% in the 12 months after their release while 83% of offenders have no paid employment upon release. We hope to engage with rehabilitation services on offer while still in custody and ‘through the gate’ we hope to encourage employment or volunteering routes on release to support a reduction in re-offending. Our ‘twinned’ prisons include HMP/YOI New Hall, a women’s prison in Wakefield and HMP Lindholme in Doncaster.
