The Well Project Back The Big Feed

Wakefield Trinity Community Foundation are grateful for the hard work and dedication showed by The Well Project in helping us stage The Big Feed 2021.

With over 4000 meals already delivered across the first four weeks, The Big Feed is going from strength-to-strength, feeding and supporting our elderly community at all four corners of the district.

However, despite the success of the meal rollout, the project – backed by Wakefield Council – and the Foundation have had numerous contributions towards the distribution of meals.

As a not-for-profit organisation, The Well Project aims to provide positive activities for the whole community and with a great team of volunteers, they have used their community spirit to make residents feel safe, secure and happy.

Throughout the pandemic, they have adapted into a Community Hub, offering shopping, medication collection and telephone befriending amongst other things to help those struggling.

Delivering meals can sometimes be more than just the arrival of food. Supporting the elderly throughout the district has offered residents the chance for some vital socially distanced contact.

Speaking on behalf of The Well Project, Community Project Coordinator, Michelle Newton, said, “Through the delivery of meals, we have not only ensured that the older and more vulnerable are fed each day, but we have also gained sight of them and have been able to carry out wellbeing checks, something which has improved their mental health immensely.

“Some of the people we see have not spoken to anyone for weeks. It’s not only benefitted the people who receive the meals, but also the volunteer drivers.

“It has also helped keep The Well Project’s name out there, to show we are still here and always available to help.”

Working with a large number of communities across the district, The Big Feed has supported and will continue to support the elderly throughout the pandemic.
