Wakefield Trinity Community Foundation is delighted to announce we have smashed our target of delivering 5000 meals throughout the first five weeks of The Big Feed.
From 22nd of February, along with our partner hubs, the Foundation has delivered over 6356 meals – on average 1250 – to the elderly and vulnerable community at all four corners of the district.
Working with Wakefield Council, the Foundation were able to identify and utilise pre-existing hubs dotted across Wakefield. This has led to a steep influx in the delivery of meals, whilst other partners have used their reach to spread the word.
Following the unprecedented success of the 2020 Big Feed, the Foundation also acted fast in securing the help of LD Nutrition, who have continuously supplied in the region of 1000 meals per week to the cause.
This has then been backed up by our outstanding partners, who have pledged their time and dedication to continue to provide support to their community, accessing and delivering freshly-cooked meals for each day of the week.
However, this would not have been possible without the backing of Wakefield Council, which have used the Big Feed umbrella to provide each individual hub with the support to continue feeding their community.
Commenting on the milestone, Community Manager, James Stephenson, thanked the hard work and dedication from our surrounding partners for making it possible.
“As a Foundation, we – along with our partners – are extremely proud that our elderly community have received over 5000 meals through The Big Feed.”
“The commitment and dedication shown so far has been incredible and we are extremely happy to be able to work and deliver in a community that looks after their own.”
“Every meal delivered is someone else who has been supported through the Big Feed, and that is a great feeling.”
While, ambassador of the project, Cllr Maureen Cummings, followed, “We at Wakefield Recovery Board are delighted that the Big Feed has hit the 5000-meal mark.”
“This project has brought together a large number of great hubs situated across the district, providing and supporting the elderly within our community.”
“I cannot thank the Foundation and all the partners enough for their continued outstanding work.”
5000 meals may have been hit; however, the hard work doesn’t stop there, and the Wakefield Trinity Community Foundation will continue to deliver meals and provide for our community.
If you are 65 or over, live in the Wakefield district and would like to order a meal straight to your door, please call 01924 211 611 (option 6) to get in touch.
A final huge thank you to all our partners who have supported The Big Feed, including Wakefield Council, Age UK Wakefield, The Well Project, Wrenthorpe Assist, Rycroft Leisure Centre, Soup4em, Jubilee Hall, St Swithun’s, Ponte Community Kitchen, Stanley St Peters, Lightwaves, CAP and Hemsworth.
