Nicholson enjoying life playing PDRL

Having been at Wakefield Trinity since its inception in 2018, PDRL’s Ben Nicholson has admitted that playing the game again is something that he never thought he would do.

With back-to-back Grand Finals and a trip to Australia under his belt, Nicholson has been a key member of the side, both on and off the pitch, in recent years.

Coming into the game not knowing what to expect, he has helped put Trinity’s PDRL side on the map and is extremely enjoying his time playing the game again.

“It has been good for me to get back into Rugby League through PDRL.

“We are onto the third or fourth season now, so we are doing well. It’s nice to see so many people come along to a sport they would have never thought they would play and have a go at it.”

Thrown into a side with people he has never met before, Nicholson has made friends for life through the sport, seeing them every Monday at training, building bonds that will last an eternity.

This is an experience he never thought he would have, so making it all a reality and still be playing with many of the same people four years on is something that he holds onto.

“We have definitely met a lot of people that we maybe wouldn’t have met before.

“Because of the way PDRL is set up, people have got to come from far and wide to find a team, somewhere to play, so it really does bring people together from different communities.”

After a rollercoaster of a time at Trinity, Ben, and his teammates, have proved that anything is possible.

Meeting new people in a similar position has been extremely beneficial to him and he is delighted to be able to continue his journey into 2022.

“It has been interesting, to say the least. Playing with people who have similar issues to myself, and in a way similar journeys.

Adam [Fleming] and I are very similar, we both played through age groups and then we both found ourselves here, which is a little bit weird, to be honest, pretty much following the exact same path.

“Then, likewise, it has been just as nice to see people with other challenges in life find their way into this great sport.”

You can catch our PDRL side in action this Saturday as they take part in their first festival of the year at Eastmoor Dragons from 11:15am.
