Main purpose of the role:

Wakefield Trinity Community Foundation is the award-winning, official charity of Wakefield Trinity Rugby League Club and is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, charismatic, and dedicated Team Leader to lead a group of young people on our new youth social action programme ‘Be The Difference’. The programme is located at the Mobile Rocket Stadium on Doncaster Road.

Be The Difference is a 5 day programme taking place within the school holidays designed to engage young people aged 11-15 to be involved in developing a social action project. This experience provides a hands on opportunity to volunteer and raise vital funds to support a specific area in the Wakefield District.


Main duties and responsibilities:

  • To encourage maximum participation, engagement and enjoyment from young people on the Be The Difference programme.
  • To build and maintain effective professional relationships with colleagues, any third parties who support delivery as well as the young people.
  • To carry out such other duties as are within the scope and spirit of the job purpose, the title of the post and level of responsibility and offer support to others when required.
  • You will be responsible for the safety and wellbeing of those under your supervision, acting for a first port of call for any pastoral care.
  • To follow and educate young people on Wakefield Trinity Community Foundation values and expectations
  • To follow, interpret, and deliver pre-made sessions in alignment with the pre-designed programme timetable.
  • To support all young people in the team, ensuring that you are inclusive of all participants and assisting in their personal development through activities
  • Work collaboratively with your colleagues to effectively manage any challenging behaviour
  • Report to the programme manager about the progress of the team and any difficulties or challenging behaviour regularly 


Person Specification

Essential Experience:

  • Experience of working with young people in a paid or voluntary capacity
  • Experience of working collaboratively in a team
  • Experience of planning, delivery, and evaluation of activities
  • Ability to follow a set curriculum, tailoring to suit the needs of the audience, as necessary
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to motivate and manage a group of up to 15 young people
  • Ability to make decisions in a timely manner, work flexibly and adapt to achieve the most beneficial outcomes
  • Ability to listen and review the development of young people, as well as reflect upon your own performance
  • Ability to handle sensitive information in a professional manner, and in line with our policies


  • Knowledge of the Wakefield Trinity Community Foundation
  • Passion/experience of working within social action projects
  • Safeguarding Qualification
  • First Aid Qualification


Safeguarding Statement and Requirements

WTFC is committed to safeguarding and prompting the welfare of young people taking part in the programme.  We expect all staff to share this commitment.

As part of this commitment to provide a safe environment for our young people, we require all candidates to return a satisfactory enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) certificate.  WTFC will assist the application and for the processing of a new DBS.

We also require two satisfactory references, including your current or last employer. Referees can be employers or anyone to whom you are known in a professional or academic context.
