Day 19 of our Wakefield Trinity Community Foundation Advent Calendar looks back at how we supported the elderly and vulnerable with The Big Feed, in association with Wakefield Council.
Following a huge amount of success throughout December 2020, the Big Feed returned in February, having already delivered well over 1000 meals to the Wakefield Community.
From when the contract was signed and LD Nutrition were informed, the wheels were in motion, with the Foundation enlisting the help of some of our charitable partners to help distribute the food.
Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from then on in, the Foundation – as well as all our dedicated volunteers – spent hours circulating food with hundreds of homes every week, providing vital nourishment for those unable to leave their homes.
After over 30,000 meals had been circulated, the Foundation was able to hold its head up high, an achievement that we are extremely proud to be a part of.
Speaking following the completion of the event back in July, project lead, James Stephenson, said, “What we have achieved over the course of the last 20 weeks has been incredible.
“The way that everyone throughout the district has come together to support their community has been incredible and we are proud to have made a difference.
“Leading this project has been a great experience and one I will take pride in for the rest of my career.”
While, Cabinet Member for Communities, Poverty and Health, at Wakefield Council, Cllr Maureen Cummings, followed, “What the Foundation has done over the past few months with the Big Feed is amazing.
“Along with their respective partners, the number of people they have supported throughout the district with freshly cooked meals has made a great difference.
“Everyone at the Wakefield Recovery Board is delighted with the way the project has both progressed and succeeded.”
