Day 17 looks back on yet another successful year for our Rugby League Partner Schools programme, which looks after 30 schools’ sport activity in the Wakefield district.
Starting again after a difficult year in 2020, our Rugby League department continued to strive for excellence.
Using the Wakefield Trinity brand, the department entered into different schools each week, delivering a six-week block of Rugby League, upskilling both class teachers and pupils.
As 2021 comes to a close and we enter into 2022, the department aims to go bigger and better, working with Waterton’s Sandal Castle to deliver the sport in more schools across the district.
Speaking on the delivery of the sport over the past year, the Foundation’s Rugby League & Inclusion Officer, Charlie Doherty, said, “I have thoroughly enjoyed delivering Rugby League in schools over the past year.
“We have come out of the other side of the pandemic in a fairly strong position and are looking forward to next year.
“It is great to grow the game amongst the younger generation.”
